I want some recipes to convert junk food to healthier food. Please this is urgent.?

Example:convert pizzas into healthier and nutritious food.I want some recipes to convert junk food to healthier food. Please this is urgent.?
Almost any food can be converted by substituting low fat, fat free or sugar free ingredients for the regular ones called for in the recipe. (i.e. if you're making a pizza, use a whole wheat crust and low-fat mozzarella cheese instead of the full-fat cheese and crust made with white flour). If you're making cokies, use sugar substitute and egg substitute for white sugar and eggs.

I don't recommend doing this though. I really can't pronounce half the stuff that's in these fat free, sugar free foods. Lots of chemicals. if I don't know what it is, I'm not going to eat it.I want some recipes to convert junk food to healthier food. Please this is urgent.?
Good guacamole receipe...Two ripe avocados, a pinch of white salt, garlic powder (not salt), black pepper, and about 1.5 - 2 tablespoons of regular mayo. You can also add onions, peppers, garlic etc. Mash/blend in a bowl, serves about 4 people and delicious.
eat the junk food then take your vitamins or Flinstones
If you mean how to make it yourself to resemble junk food but be healthier...

We buy Trader Joe's pizzas (4.99) and top them ourselves with chopped onions, feta, peppers, roasted eggplant; The new 1/2 meat 1/2 soy burgers topped at home with red peppers, onions, cucumbers and avo with a strong mustard is way better than burger kings. Pretzels with hummus are as good as french fries. Healthy food done right tastes better than junk food! Bon appetit!!
www.cookinglight.com

This is a great website that has already taken a lot of our favorites and made them lighter.
For pizza instead of sauce use diced tomato, and top with organic cheese and fresh veggies. As for sweets I just bought some ';Whole Grain Chips Ahoy'; the other day that are pretty good. Or skip the cookies and cakes altogether and serve just tangy fruits like strawberries, mangoes, or green apples.
Get whole wheat pizza dough (Trader Joes, $.99), pizza sauce (any market) very limited cheese (but good for calcium) and lots of sliced veggies... the more colors, the better. Assemble pizza and bake in oven... a pizza stone is nice but not essential.

For fries, cut potato wedges, lightly coat with olive oil (a mister tool is best , but i usually just mix in a bowl with a little oil) aND SPRINKLE WITH SALT, PEPPER AND HERBS IF YOU WISH. Bake at 350 degrees in cookie tray for 15 - 20 mins or until crispy on outside, tender in middle.

Can anybody give me a recipe for making healthy dog food or know of a recipe book for dog food?

Yes. Give the dog a big bone! Can anybody give me a recipe for making healthy dog food or know of a recipe book for dog food?
And a cat recipe, too, please. Can anybody give me a recipe for making healthy dog food or know of a recipe book for dog food?
allrecipes.com has had a lot of them showing up in the last several months %26amp; each one recommends another yesterday they had Dog Treats One
cook lean hamburger or ground chicken or turkey, add a little salt and garlic powder, add chopped carrots and peas. Make a light gravy and add cooked rice blend together.

The chicken and turkey are healthier than the hamburger but it's your choice, just don't add flour to the gravy that would add more calories. The animals think they are getting steak. (joke)
I give my dogs chicken and rice.

I boil a couple of skinless chicken thighs for 10-15 minutes and then I cut up the cooled chicken and add to cooked white rice. I add a little of the chicken broth.

I have two chihuahuas and this lasts for a few days, so of course you would have to adjust it according to your dog(s).

Eating all natural??? Yummy healthy recipes/foods?

Hello everyone hope u are all in good health.

As for me I have been wanting to loose some weight not a whole lot but more just wanna be healthy. I am going to be doing a cleanse and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good healthy natural recipes or foods they like personally other than fruits and veggies of course. Something like hummus, almond butter etc or any good web sites they know about???

Anything will help thanks for your time =}Eating all natural??? Yummy healthy recipes/foods?
Hi, there to you too:) .... My husband lost 75 lbs in a year, just from cutting out sugar and limiting his carbs:) I like to bake and cook, and do it from scratch. The secret to healthy, natural dishes is to limit your pre-packages products, and use fresh ingredients. Even real, natural butter contains Vitamin A and calcium! ..... Hummus is great for you, because garbanzo beans are a good source of protein, and olive oil will help lower your bad cholesterol. Almonds are the healtiest nuts you can eat too (especially dry roasted). Blueberries have tons of anti-oxidants .... DARK green leafy vegetables have lots of iron. In fact, the darker the color of the veggie (whether green, orange, whatever), the more nutritious that it is .... Yogurt is great for digestion; and Greek yogurt has very little sugar in it and tastes the best (stir in some fruit, or drizzle some honey over it). Even some cereals are healthy, add some fruit and try using vanilla soy milk or yogurt, instead.....Eating all natural??? Yummy healthy recipes/foods?

Ideas for healthy foods/recipes to feed my 1 yr old!?

My son just turned one last week and we've been giving him table food for about 2 months now. He will eat any type of fruit (bananas, mango, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, pears) , but only a few other things, like salami, ham, cheese, toast and sometimes chicken breast if it's marinated in something. We also give him crackers, goldfish, and Gerber puffs as well as some other packaged baby snacks, but I want him to get more of a variety and I need help to get him to eat his veggies and get him completely off the baby food jars. I tried to get him to eat broccoli today and he tried it but then spit it out. Does anyone have any easy and quick (HEALTHY) ideas or recipes for lunches and dinners? I am running out of ideas and I feel like I am giving him the same stuff all the time. I think he would eat more veggies if I could find a way to cover the taste with something he likes (some kind of sauce or something). But I also don't want to spend lots of time on fixing something just to find out that he's going to toss it to our dogs if he doesn't like it! Thanks for your help!Ideas for healthy foods/recipes to feed my 1 yr old!?
What about making a big pot of stew. It's so easy to make, just throw it in the crockpot in the morning and away you go. You can pretty much throw any kind of vegetable in there! If you make a big enough pot, freeze some for another day. What about a cheese sauce for the veggies? Another suggestion would be to go out a buy the book ';Deceptively Delicious'; by Jessica Seinfeld. It's a great cookbook on how to hide vegetables in everyday foods. My kids love the Hot Chocolate with sweet potato in it, and also bran muffins with cauliflower.....and they are none the wiser :)Ideas for healthy foods/recipes to feed my 1 yr old!?
Grilled cheese sandwiches: you can hide chopped steamed broccoli in it.

Meatloaf: minced carrots, make it extremely tender.

Quesodillas: you can hide veggies in that as well with the cheese or add beans and some very finely chopped.

These are all things my 1 year old was eating.
Google 'annabel karmel'. Her website has loads of ideas. Her recipes allow you to make a batch so you can freeze food and then have plenty prepared. Has good ideas for finger foods too.
Have you tried baby carrots with Ranch....or even celery with peanut butter you can even top it off with raisins Mmmmm.....or even strawberries with whipped cream

  • Heart-healthy foods/recipes?

I'm almost 19 years old and I would like to incorporate more heart-healthy foods into my diet. I'm quite healthy as it is, but I had an ASD repair when I was 6 years old, so I would prefer to improve my diet even more. My heart is very healthy, and there is only a minimal chance that I will need another surgery when I am 40-50 to repair another leakage. I have very minimal leakage as it is, and that is normal. I go for checkups every six months; my next appointment is in August.

I know the heart-healthy foods pretty well -- berries, vegetables (especially spinach, carrots, etc.), olive oil, nuts, fish... etc. but I would like some recipes, too. I would also like some options for when I go back to college in the fall (preferably foods that can be reheated in the microwave after being frozen, etc.). I will have a microwave and fridge, but there isn't a stove in my dorm room (obviously) and I absolutely refuse to go to the resident cafeteria... it's all processed food anyways. Last year, I made and froze plenty of individual portions of homemade, low-sodium soups, and I brought plenty of fruits and some vegetables to school with me. What else can I bring?

Finally, please keep in mind that I sometimes have difficulty swallowing particular foods due to my hyperthyroidism. I am getting the iodine treatment when I come back from Ireland in late July, but I still want to be careful about the foods that I eat so that I don't choke.

Thanks so much for the help!Heart-healthy foods/recipes?

check with your vet. if you are in canada i know a vet food company called medical can offer you homemade recipes which are balanced. medical makes veterinarian diets so there is alot of research that has gone into the diets. or at least check with your vet and they probably have a diet recipe which is balanced. either way make sure you're adding a vitamin premix. have fun :) it is a lot of work.
Home-made dog food recipes can lack some of the nutrients that are essential for a healthy dog. I'd suggest buying Nutro dog food - they don't use any ';by products'; and my dogs have done great on it for many years. It's all I recommend now.

    BREAKFAST?

    LUNCH?

    DINNER?

    SNACK?

    ps. i dislike breakfast ALOT, help?Healthy foods/recipes?
I have to force myself to eat breakfast, so I came up with a couple of delicious things to make quickly and without cooking.

I love the crunch of a Cinnamon rice cake with 100% natural peanut butter and topped with either banana or apple slices and sprinkled with raisins. This is very healthy for you as it has protein from the peanut butter, vitamins from the fruit and iron from the raisins.

Another refreshing favorite is low fat or fat free vanilla bean yogurt, with a small splash of almond extract, a few tablespoons of granola with nuts, a tablespoon of milled flax seed (great omega 3), and your favorite chopped fruit. I sometimes mix it up with different flavors or ingredient combinations...use your imagination.

So, I lied, there is one quick-cook breakfast. Good Old Fashioned Quaker Oats Oatmeal. Just measure out a serving, add the right amount of water (see directions on package) and Cinnamon and extract (vanilla, almond, orange or anise). A sprinkle of brown sugar and perhaps raisins or chopped apples, maybe peaches or strawberries. This oatmeal never gets boring if you mix up the flavors a bit. These ideas transform blah into yay.

    Enjoy your Breakfast.Healthy foods/recipes?
I don't like breakfast much either. I usually do a banana, juice and toast, or cereal and juice. Pick a cereal you really like and watch the sugar content. No more than 7-8 grams is OK.

I eat all food in its natural state. I don't buy pre-made, ';out of the box anything.'; I buy potatoes and tomatoes and fruit and frozen veggies. Sometimes canned like green beans or corn. I eat salads.

Also buy lean cuts of meat. No less than 85% lean hamburger, chicken and defatted pork, turkey bacon on occasion. I stay away from junk food and fast food. I substitute all sugar in recipes to Splenda or Sugar Twin, I substitute 1/2 the oil in cake and cookie recipes with apple sauce. Look on the internet for diabetic recipes or heart healthy recipes. They are the best for healthy choices.

Most meals can be made in 1/2 hour to 45 min. Watch Rachael Ray!

    Good luck!

Nut butter balls. Honey/other liquid sweetener, your favorite nut butter, some rolled oats (dried), powdered nuts (same variety). Mix equal parts honey, nut butter, and powdered nuts. Add the oats. Use your hands if it gets tough. Roll into balls. Roll into carob or more chopped nuts if you want. Perfect Roast Turkey

    1 fresh turkey (12 pounds)

    Kosher salt

    Freshly ground black pepper

1 large bunch of fresh thyme

    1 lemon, halved

    3 Spanish onions

    1 head garlic, halved crosswise

4 tablespoons butter (1/2 stick), melted

    1/2 cup good olive oil

8 carrots, peeled and cut into 2-inch chunks

    10 red new potatoes, halved

3 heads fennel, fronds removed, cut into wedges through the core

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Take the giblets out of the turkey and wash the turkey inside and out. Remove any excess fat and leftover pinfeathers and pat the outside dry. Place the turkey in a large roasting pan. Liberally salt and pepper the inside of the turkey cavity. Stuff the cavity with the thyme, lemon, one of the onions (quartered), and the garlic. Brush the outside of the turkey with the butter and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Tie the legs together with string and tuck the wing tips under the body of the turkey. Peel and slice the remaining onions, toss them with 1/4 cup olive oil, and scatter them around the turkey.

Roast the turkey for 1 hour. Toss the carrots, potatoes, and fennel with 1/4 cup olive oil and add to the roasting pan. Continue to roast for about 1 1/2 hours, or until the juices run clear when you cut between the leg and the thigh. Remove the turkey to a cutting board and cover with aluminum foil; let rest for 20 minutes.

Stir the vegetables and return the pan to the oven. Continue to cook the vegetables while the turkey rests. Slice the turkey and serve on a platter with the roasted vegetables. Serves 8.

By Vet wants my dog to gain weight w/2400 cal/day. Does anyone have a homemade healthy dog food recipe?.?

I have tried many of the high end commercial brands and he just does not have a hugh appetite so does not eat the required amount to get the calories the vet wants. He is completely healthy otherwise, just to skinny. Please help.By Vet wants my dog to gain weight w/2400 cal/day. Does anyone have a homemade healthy dog food recipe?.?
The vet can give you supplements for weight gain. A friend recued a mother dog, and her pups, right at death's door. It was horrible how skinny she was, just heartbreaking. Anyway, the vet gave her a supplement to add to her food, and weight gain, came right back. Worms are sometimes the cause of not being able to hold weight, but I'm positive your vet discussed that, correct? Check it out, being underweight is just as bad as overweight. Most dogs have good appetites, how old the dog is,also may be a concern. If it's getting older, then yeah, I would expect a low appetite, but if any other age, dogs love to eat. Good luck, I hope he gets chunky!By Vet wants my dog to gain weight w/2400 cal/day. Does anyone have a homemade healthy dog food recipe?.?
What is too skinny? My dogs were said to be too skinny too but they aren't. They are very fit. Do you see bones or feel the spine or can you only slightly feel the ribs? You should be able to feel the ribs but not see them.

Just feed your dog. A vet shouldn't encourage fast weight gain anyways. All you need to do is feed him normal portions and he will gain it.
I have two labs and a sheperd and here is what I have been feeding them for the last 7 years. Not only will they maintain a healthy weight, but the diet will improve their coats (no dandruff). 2 bags of brown rice, one whole chicken (white meat pulled off and cooked until done), and two bags of frozen green peas. Cook the rice and green peas until done. Combine the cooked chicken, peas and brown rice into a large stirring bowl and mix. Pour contents into pet's food bowl roughly two 8 oz. cups per dog

Does anyone know some good recipes for salads, snacks, main courses, anything or a site that would be helpful?Recipes for healthy, tasty food?
You can cut down on fat and calories by using cottage cheese instead of ricotta. As a rule, the best cooking oils are those you can see through with olive oil being the best. Anything like shortening is pure fat, don't use it. You can tell it's bad because it's solid white.

Snack on celery sticks, they have negative calories which means the body expends energy trying to digest them. Cucumbers fly under the radar for carbohydrates so they're good and if you have diabetic tendencies, perfect for the diet.

RecipeZaar and Allrecipes are some great sites for all kind of recipes. They are simple, tasty and are easy on the budget.

My all-favorite however is Epicurious.com. You can set up an acct for free and keep favorite recipes in a 'recipe box'. It is easy to navigate and can be filtered by cuisine, level of expertise, kid-friendly, low carb, etc. You can filter by ingredients that you already have, and the ease of preparation based on the time you have. I am an ok cook (many say great cook..but there is a lot of room for improvements). I like this website best because it offers many exotic dishes that are easy to prepare. I am always looking to find something new.

Well fried rice isn't necessarily unhealthy. It depends on what you put in it. If you make it yourself (like I do) then it's pretty healthy. Try using brown rice. I put scrambled eggs, diced onion, green onion, smoked salmon (or whatever meat I have on hand- sometimes no meat), peas, etc. Basically whatever you want.

Hope you do well on your assignment!

:)What are some healthy recipe alternatives to junk food i could try?
It really is simple as pie. Easy, too. I saw a nutritionist a month ago and already have lost five kilograms (10 1/2 lbs.)

All you do is to avoid using extra salt, cut off the fat from meats, and have a couple of pieces of fruit per day and a serving of three vegetables. Use low fat milk as well. It is that easy. Easy on the sugar - substitute Splenda if you have a sweet tooth. Cereals are highly recommended; porridge and full grain breads. White flour has nothing left in it.

You do not have to cut out junk food. I have it some times, but not all the time. Keep your biscuit barrel empty by not refilling it. Bickies have a lot of fat in them to make them crisp and crunchy.

Mix the colours of your vegetables, green, yellow, red, white. White vegetables do not have as much nutrition in them as the coloured varieties. I cannot stand brown rice and much prefer the polished white, so that is what I have whenever rice is on the menu. But rice is a filler, not much nutrition in it unless brown.

Now, some fat or other switches on the hunger action. Your brain recognises it and says, ';Hmmn-n-n, good, I want more of that so as I can store it.'; We eat and we get fat. So avoiding fats is a good idea. once you follow this through for a few weeks, your brain will be thinking, ';No, I only want a bit of that and a bit of this.'; A big plate does not mean that you cram it full, you can have elegant suffiency.

Exercising does help, because you burn up calories to do it. I do not exercise apart from strolling up to the bus stop. Still, it is something, I suppose.

Not only that, you can have whatever you like, just do not pig out. If I was aware it was this easy I would have started dieting 40 years ago.
    can't help you

I never met any junk food..

i love my dogs so much. i don't know what to do. i want them to be safe and healthy. what can i do with 95 brands of pet foods being recalled, and that number is possibly going to rise?I'm FREAKING OUT!!! What is a safe dog food I can feed my puppy and my dog??? Any healthy homemade recipes?
All the foods being recalled are low quality. Natural Balance is NOT affected by the recall as they DO NOT do business with Menu Foods and the DO NOT use wheat.

    http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com

Some other foods to look for are Blue Buffalo, Wysong, Merrick, Wellness, Evo, Innova, Solid Gold, and other human grade foods that do not use fillers.

    I hope this helps.

Edit: Science Diet is bad food, as are Purina Alpo, Pedigree, etc. Nutro is not much better, and they have foods being recalled. I wouldn't risk it.

Unfortunately, many of the people offering help today aren't educated on foods. That's why I get negged for saying that these are bad foods. DOn't believe me, believe the ingredient labels. http://www.feedmypet.com/dog-food-compar鈥?/a> lol.I'm FREAKING OUT!!! What is a safe dog food I can feed my puppy and my dog??? My vet told me to feed my dogs ';Royal Canin Dry';. They love it and it has all the nutrients they need. I have been feeding that to mine, for quite a while now, and they are healthier than ever, and have had no health problems.
I go with Nutro Natural Choice. It's got good ingredients and is relatively cheap.
Don't go with Science Diet - they just have a recall on their DRY cat food! - so will it now include more dry foods?
Purina brand of dog food is a safe brand........!
Mix in a food processer or chop up really really good with a knife:

2 cans of diced potatoes and 1 can of red salmon

Include the bone and skin of the salmon.

Check with your vet before changing your dog's food.

But a good homemade dog food needs to be

    2 parts starch, (potatoes) and

    1 part protein, (salmon)

    Good Luck
Alpo and Pedigree, my dogs eat it and I've checked the list of recalled pet foods(updated today) that the Delaware County Aspca's website has listed and I didn't see them on the list.
Science Diet is a good brand to go with. You can also do homemade stuff with protein, like chicken or eggs and some rice and veggies.
if you want to make a healthy meal for your dog or puppy make this get some steak do not put anything on it and cook or grill it medium rare its healthy fro them plus they love it.for small puppies i would cut it up alot so they can chew it easyer

Here is a healthy ice cream to make you thinner (Amer. Diabetes Assoc. says fruit helps you lose weight). Take bananas (nothing else works) and whip them. Add flavoring like real vanilla extract, mint, whipped strawberries, cherries, blueberries, kiwi fruit or carob (chocolate alternative). Then freeze. Any other ideas? Need healthy nutritional homemade dog food recipes....?

What your dog will need could vary. Avoid typical table scraps including fat trimmings, gravies, onions, garlic, red meat (except occasionally). If dogs get too many fatty foods and greasy foods they are prone to pancreatitis which is serious.

Here's a site for a raw diet. I have used this for feeding my three dogs and they did GREAT on it. One of my dogs had a history of pancreatitis from before she started this diet. For her, I would grind the raw meaty bones because she could not or would not chew the bones, being a ';gulper';.

The only reason I stopped feeding this was because I have a small freezer space and also for convenience sake. So I feed partial raw, meaning my dogs get raw meaty bones a few times a week but otherwise eat commercial dog food.

The brand mine eat was not on any recall list and does not contain any wheat products.

There are numerous ways to reduce the cholesterol, fat, sodium and sugar in your favorite recipes. The secret to reworking your old recipe into a new healthier recipe is substitution of ingredients and a change in your cooking methods. Use the following simple and easy cooking methods and substitutions to make healthier adaptations of your favorite soul food meals.

When a recipe calls for dairy products choose a low-fat, reduced fat or non-fat version. For instance instead of whole milk opt for 1% or 2% milk.

Remove or reduce salt from your recipes. Most foods actually require little to no salt, so give your food a taste test to determine if salt is needed. Salt should be substituted with herbs, lemon or lime juice and spices.

Use fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and fresh meats in your recipe, because canned products are high in sodium. If you must use canned products choose the healthier reduced sodium or sodium free versions.

Try a different cooking method when you cook up your next chicken or pork chop dinner. Baked, broiled, roasted or grilled meats are a much healthier alternative to pan and deep fried foods that contain too much fat and cholesterol.

Use lean cuts of meat and remove any visible fat from you meat before cooking. Also, by removing the skin from poultry before cooking you can eliminate fat and cholesterol.

If you must fry your meat and vegetables, avoid cooking in lard and oils high in saturated fat. Substitute with a vegetable oil that's low in saturated fats and high in healthy fats.

Cut back on the amount of meat in your recipes and add more vegetable and whole grain products. Use ground turkey when the recipe calls for ground beef. If you have not substituted turkey for beef in your chili or meatloaf recipes, you're missing out on a great tasting low fat meal.

Now back to the more to follow subject. The key to preparing healthy soul food recipes is not to go cold turkey all at once. You have to ease your way into the process and only make small changes until you are comfortable with the taste of the newly prepared food.Does anyone know a healthy fish soul food recipe?

Here's our take on a traditional chef's salad, which is anything but light fare when it's heaped with meats and cheeses. Our version keeps the satisfaction factor with lean turkey breast and reduced-fat Swiss cheese - and adds plenty of colorful vegetables to the mix.

    1 cup shredded carrots

    2 tablespoons red onion chopped

1/4 cup dressing, such as Creamy Dill Ranch Dressing

    10 cherry tomatoes

4 slices roast turkey breast, cut up (3 ounces)

Try adding yogurt and fresh veggies and fruits (uncooked and no dipping sauces) in place of potatoes, rice, bread also eat your meat grilled or broiled to reduce fat. Sensible switching and eating the same calories will work. You need to eat more foods that burn calories and less fat since it stores calories. You can eat cheese and yogurt since they actually help eliminate fat from the body. Good Luck!Does anyone have some good easy recipes for healthy foods?

It is such a healthy food.?
    Hi there diurlin***

Yuuuuuuuuugggghhhh!!! I would not like to try any of the other recipes, not being nasty because I am used to my spinach the following way:

    * Spinach (as much as you want)

    * potatoes (for 1 whole head I use 2 potatoes)

    * 1 Onion (chopped up)

    * Chicken stock, 1 cube

    * garlic (1 clove) or ask much as you like!!

    * butter (2 tsps, or more if you want, when you are mashing)

    * worcester sauce

    * salt

Place (throw) all the above in a pot with the water covering the quartered potatoes. Cook until the potatoes are cooked, as if you were going to make mash potatoes).

Add the butter, worcester sauce and salt to the mixture, to your liking, and mash all ingredients together.

Voila!!! it is now ready to eat.

I use the above for my spuds, Cook the whole pototoes, scoop out the middle part, mash the potatoes with the above, take the shell of the potato and fry in a little hot oil until crispy, fill the hollow with the mixture, sprinkle cheese on top and grill until cheese has melted.

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmm now I am hungry!!

    ENJOY****

Can someone tell me if this dog food recipe is healthy and balanced?

I've researched everywhere on-line that I can think of and have avoided foods that are heavily disputed. Here goes:

    1lb. ground sirloin, 90% lean;

    4 eggs scrambled with the sirloin;

    1 cup cooked brown rice;

    1 cup plain fat-free yogurt;

    1 cup fat-free cottage cheese;

    1 can unsalted green beans, smashed;

    2 carrots, grated;

1/2 cup extra virgin, first press olive oil.

This lasts 6 days for my 8-10 pound yorkie/poodle mix, at one to one and a half cups a day. I also give him one holistic dog biscuit a day specifically designed to clean his teeth and gums. Thanks for the input, I want to be sure I'm feeding him healthy and there is just so many contradictory advice. Can someone tell me if this dog food recipe is healthy and balanced?

www.pet-grub.comCan someone tell me if this dog food recipe is healthy and balanced?
If you are going to spend the money to feed a homemade meal, Do some research into raw feeding and go raw. Your diet is lacking in several nutrients because A. It is cooked. B. It has no bone +no calcium, manganese and other nutrients.

Balance... It's just a word used by dog food companies to make people think they are to stupid to feed a dog on their own. Who eats a balanced diet at every meal? What species eats a balanced meal at every meal? Nature never intended every meal to be 'balanced' and WHO truly knows what a balanced meal is?

Balance happens over time. You don't sit at the table and calculate nutrients for your kids and shop accordingly, You go to the store and buy several meals to eat and balance happens over time. Surely it can not be more difficult then that to feed our MUCH more adaptable dogs!

It's an out right insult that these dog food companies make people think hey re incapable of feeding a dog.

Search out RAW feeding and consider it. It's cheaper, it's easier and you won't have to worry about balance if you feed a variety of raw meaty bones and organs from different animals. Add in an egg a week and some red fish and you got it right! Feeding a dog is EASY. Not a science.
This looks really good, do you cook the meat? That's the only thing I would question. I don't feed raw meat, there are just too many possible problems if the meat isn't cooked. I may have to try this recipe but I would mix some hard dog food with it so they have something for their teeth. I have 2 on special diets, 1 for joint problems %26amp; 1 for diabetes, so they need that diet as well. And regardless of what some people think, some dogs do need wet food to maintain their weight %26amp; coat or it wouldn't be made %26amp; sold.
I don't know how healthy it is, but I'll bet your dog loves it! The recipe I have calls for 2/3 protein, 1/3 veggies, mineral supplements, and brown rice, beans, or more veggies for carbs. I've never heard of putting in cottage cheese or yogurt, but seems like that might take the place of the minerals (calcium). The oil is good, since it's the kind that is heart healthy but even better is the Omega oil in fish like salmon. You can get that oil in gel capsules but it is really fishy smelling. I don't know if every dog likes that taste.

Good going. YOur dog is really lucky! I hope you can keep it up. I got tired of cooking it.

You might also do some research on the BARF diet. Stands for ';Bones and Raw Food';. This is a radical approach of feeding dogs the way their ancestors ate. You can read all about it on the internet.
No. Stick with a high quality kibble. Dogs don't need wet food.

Canidae, Wellness, Innova or Artemis make human grade dog kibble.

Also i DONT eat FISH! ive heard its good for you in many ways but i just cant eat it. however, crab, clams, shrimp, and other seafood i do eat. just no fish. thanksHealthy Food Recipes ?
Yes I will avoid a seafood recipe entirely.

    1. Try a mexican burrito with vegetarian, non fat refried beans, low fat mexican cheese (shredded), nonfat or lowfat sour cream, lettuce, salsa, black olives and whatever other veggies you want.. all wrapped up in a whole wheat tortilla! Delcious!

    2. Try something called quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) that you buy in a health food store. Boil it in double the liquid (i.e. 1/2 cup quinoa in 1 cup fluid).. and use vegetable base broth for the fluid or at least half. Bring to boil, reduce heat to low and cover until quinoa absorbs liquid. (About 15 to 20 minutes). This is delicous, tastes sort of like rice, is 100% vegetarian and is a COMPLETE protein so that it does not require any other foods to make a complete amino acid. Wonderfully Easy.. VERYYYYY healthy. It's a whole grain, too!

    3. Try this fruit salad. Fresh pears cut up into cubes, add a few walnuts for the good (saturated) fat boost, and sprinkle heavily with cinnamon. The cinnamon will flavor the pears and give your blood sugar regulation stability. Supurb and EXCELLENT for your body!

    4. An Egg Omlette: 3 egg whites, and veggies cooked in 1 tbsp olive oil to your content. I add green peppers, mushrooms (buttons, shittakes, portabella are all great) onions, chille peppers if I want something warm, and then pour a little salsa on top. Wonderful.. filled with good nutrients, and avoiding the yolks to reduce cholesterol content. Very packed with antioxidants and minerals. Fabulous protein packed breakfast food! Fast to make!

    5. Try this Italian treat! Buy 100% whole wheat spaghetti noodles, cook until tender, drain. Buy organic spaghetti sauce, lo fat if you find it, and add TONS of veggies... mushrooms, green peppers, scallions, garlic, zuchinni... and I let the sauce cook on low all day in the crock pot. Then, by the end of the day the sauce is sooooo aromatic and the flavors have completely blended. Serve over warmed whole wheat spaghetti (or other whole wheat pasta) and adorn with parmesan. Wholesome goodness. High in fiber!Healthy Food Recipes ?

I've only just started making food properly and I have no idea what I can make.

Could you please give me some easy to make dinners that are relatively healthy.

    Thanks Healthy Food Recipes? ?
There are so many recipes, and I'm not sure what you like, but here are some of my favorites...

    ***Chicken Stir-Fry Wraps***

1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, halved horizontally and thinly sliced

    Coarse salt and ground pepper

    2 tablespoons olive oil

1 large onion, halved and thinly sliced

1 large red bell pepper, ribs and seeds removed, thinly sliced

    3 cloves garlic, minced

1 1/2 teaspoons grated peeled fresh ginger

    1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon red-pepper flakes

    3 tablespoons soy sauce

    3 tablespoons rice vinegar

1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch, mixed with 1 tablespoon water

12 to 16 Boston lettuce leaves (about 2 heads)

    Directions

Season chicken with salt and pepper. In a large nonstick skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil over high heat. Add half the chicken; cook, stirring constantly, until opaque throughout, 2 to 4 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Repeat with remaining chicken.

Add remaining tablespoon oil to pan, along with the onion and bell pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until onion is tender and golden, about 4 minutes (reduce heat if browning too quickly).

Reduce heat to medium; add garlic, ginger, and red-pepper flakes; cook, stirring, until fragrant, 30 to 60 seconds.

Stir in soy sauce, vinegar, and cornstarch mixture; remove from heat. Add chicken and any accumulated juices; toss to coat. Serve in lettuce cups.

    ***Black Bean Chili***

    4 large poblano peppers

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)

1 jalape帽o pepper, seeded and finely chopped

    1 large onion, chopped

4 garlic cloves, finely chopped or grated

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

2 cans black beans (15 ounces), drained of half their liquid

2 tablespoons chili powder (a large palmful)

2 teaspoons ground cumin (about half a palmful)

    1/2 teaspoon allspice (eyeball it)

1 bottle dark lager beer, such as ***** Modelo

1 can crushed fire-roasted tomatoes (15 ounce can or half a 28o ounce can)

2 cups beef or vegetable stock (use vegetable to make it vegetarian)

    Hot sauce, to taste

1/2 cup sour cream, for garnish

1/2 cup chopped cilantro, for garnish

    PreparationHeat broiler to high.

Char the poblanos under the broiler so their skins blacken, 7-8 minutes. Place in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let stand 10 minutes. Once the peppers have cooled enough to handle, peel and seed them, then roughly chop them up and set them aside.

Place a medium-size pot over medium-high heat with 2 tablespoons EVOO, about two turns of the pan. Add the jalape帽o, onion and garlic to the pan, and cook 6-7 minutes, until the veggies are tender. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper, then add in the beer, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Cook a few minutes to reduce the liquid by half, then add the black beans and their liquid, the chopped poblanos, spices, crushed tomatoes and stock. Bring up to a bubble, then reduce the heat and simmer to thicken slightly, about 5 minutes. Adjust the seasoning with salt and freshly ground pepper as needed.

Serve the chili up and pass around hot sauce, sour cream, and cilantro at the table to top it with.

    ***Zucchini Pasta with Grilled Fish***

    Salt

    1 pound spaghetti

1 cup extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), plus more for drizzling

6 cloves garlic, grated or finely chopped

1/3 cup finely chopped flat leaf parsley leaves (a generous handful)

1/3 cup finely chopped fresh mint leaves (a generous handful)

1 1/2 pounds small zucchini, sliced 1/2 inch thick

    Pepper

1 cup grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

    4 large fillets red snapper

4 cups baby arugula or baby spinach leaves

2 lemons, one half left whole for squeezing, one half cut into wedges

PreparationPre-heat a grill or grill pan to medium-high. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, salt it, add the spaghetti and cook until al dente. Drain, reserving 1 cup pasta cooking water.

While the pasta is working, in a bowl, combine 1 cup EVOO, the garlic, parsley and mint. Spoon about one-third of the herb dressing into a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat. Add the zucchini, season with salt and pepper and cook until softened, 8-10 minutes. Add the reserved pasta cooking water and the pasta; toss. Sprinkle in the cheese and toss. Keep warm.

Meanwhile, score the fish skin with a sharp knife in a crosshatch pattern. Season with salt and pepper; drizzle EVOO on both sides to coat. Grill the fish for 3 minutes on each side.

Divide the fish and arugula among plates. Squeeze the half lemon on top. Season the remaining herb dressing with salt and pepper; drizzle over the fish and greens. Serve with the pasta and lemon wedges.

Some good choices are chicken breast, turkey breast, fish and shell fish, lean beef (sirloin, flank steak, london broil), and pork tenderloin.
