Can someone tell me if this dog food recipe is healthy and balanced?

I've researched everywhere on-line that I can think of and have avoided foods that are heavily disputed. Here goes:

1lb. ground sirloin, 90% lean;

4 eggs scrambled with the sirloin;

1 cup cooked brown rice;

1 cup plain fat-free yogurt;

1 cup fat-free cottage cheese;

1 can unsalted green beans, smashed;

2 carrots, grated;

1/2 cup extra virgin, first press olive oil.

This lasts 6 days for my 8-10 pound yorkie/poodle mix, at one to one and a half cups a day. I also give him one holistic dog biscuit a day specifically designed to clean his teeth and gums. Thanks for the input, I want to be sure I'm feeding him healthy and there is just so many contradictory advice. Can someone tell me if this dog food recipe is healthy and balanced?
sounds pretty good....where is the calcium though?..i use egg shells.

check out it has an egg shell recipe...

If you are going to spend the money to feed a homemade meal, Do some research into raw feeding and go raw. Your diet is lacking in several nutrients because A. It is cooked. B. It has no bone +no calcium, manganese and other nutrients.

Balance... It's just a word used by dog food companies to make people think they are to stupid to feed a dog on their own. Who eats a balanced diet at every meal? What species eats a balanced meal at every meal? Nature never intended every meal to be 'balanced' and WHO truly knows what a balanced meal is?

Balance happens over time. You don't sit at the table and calculate nutrients for your kids and shop accordingly, You go to the store and buy several meals to eat and balance happens over time. Surely it can not be more difficult then that to feed our MUCH more adaptable dogs!

It's an out right insult that these dog food companies make people think hey re incapable of feeding a dog.

Search out RAW feeding and consider it. It's cheaper, it's easier and you won't have to worry about balance if you feed a variety of raw meaty bones and organs from different animals. Add in an egg a week and some red fish and you got it right! Feeding a dog is EASY. Not a science.
This looks really good, do you cook the meat? That's the only thing I would question. I don't feed raw meat, there are just too many possible problems if the meat isn't cooked. I may have to try this recipe but I would mix some hard dog food with it so they have something for their teeth. I have 2 on special diets, 1 for joint problems %26amp; 1 for diabetes, so they need that diet as well. And regardless of what some people think, some dogs do need wet food to maintain their weight %26amp; coat or it wouldn't be made %26amp; sold.
I don't know how healthy it is, but I'll bet your dog loves it! The recipe I have calls for 2/3 protein, 1/3 veggies, mineral supplements, and brown rice, beans, or more veggies for carbs. I've never heard of putting in cottage cheese or yogurt, but seems like that might take the place of the minerals (calcium). The oil is good, since it's the kind that is heart healthy but even better is the Omega oil in fish like salmon. You can get that oil in gel capsules but it is really fishy smelling. I don't know if every dog likes that taste.

Good going. YOur dog is really lucky! I hope you can keep it up. I got tired of cooking it.

You might also do some research on the BARF diet. Stands for ';Bones and Raw Food';. This is a radical approach of feeding dogs the way their ancestors ate. You can read all about it on the internet.
No. Stick with a high quality kibble. Dogs don't need wet food.

Canidae, Wellness, Innova or Artemis make human grade dog kibble.

Are you really planning on preparing this concoction for your pet everyday for the rest of it's life? Come on now.. be realistic.

Easy and healthy baby food recipes?

I'm worried about my baby's diet. He is 7 months old and he's been on 2 meals a day since 6 months. I've never been told what to feed him, I've just guessed. He just has jarred porridge for breakfast and jarred baby food for dinner, along with his milk feeds and some rusks for snacks if he seems hungry.

I've heared about mothers making their own food with different vegetables, and it sounds so much healthier (and cheaper) than these jarred foods. Has anyone got any good recipes? I've never been a good at cooking so the the more simple the better! Thanks. xxEasy and healthy baby food recipes?
I had 4 babies in 5 yrs. and of course by the time you have the 4th one you begin to feed them table food at 6 months and you never see any jars. To make my own baby food, I would prepare chicken soup or beef stew adding vegetables to both without spicy spices, once I was done with it and things cooled down I use to run in through the blender. I would fill the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze them, once they are frozen keep them in freezer bags to prevent freezer burn. When baby is hungry, take a cube of whatever and micro wave it or melt it in a pan then cool and feed baby. There it was wonderful, easy, nutritious and in expensive.Easy and healthy baby food recipes?
I read a book called ';Super Baby Food'; and it said the best way to make veggies for your baby is for a younger baby, single veggie meals are good to make sure that the child isn't allergic to each food. Each week, try a new food and go from there. Also, steaming is the way to cook to retain as many vitamins as possible...and if you want to batch cook them, use fresh veggies, steam them, blend/proccess them, and pour the food into ice cube trays and freeze. Just microwave to thaw and there you go! I've done that with all my kids, and only had to cook every month or so...depends on how much you make each time.
I make my own baby food and my son is 7 months old. There's a great website you can check out.

www.wholesomebabyfood.com

It has great explanations on what foods you should feed your baby, as well as advice on why to hold off on certain foods. And it has a section on exotic fruits, which is great because I want to be introduce my son to a variety of different foods. There is also a section on meats, which I find helpful as I'd rather have fresh meat for my son rather than the ickiness in the jars I see on the shelves.

Also, the pureed foods we make ourselves can also be used in our own foods. I sometimes eat my son's butternut squash or sweet potato puree, unseasoned, and I love it!

Also are recommendations on why steaming is the best method, but baking can be used to. Baked apples and pears taste so yummy! They come out sweeter than simply boiling/steaming and pureeing them. Try it and see!

Most of the time it is more affordable, but if you just need a small amount of something (like prunes for constipation) it might be best to just buy a small jar. Also, fruits like apricots can be expensive and the jarred stuff is cheaper if you'd like to have your son eat those kinds of food.

There is also a recipe box available on Amazon called the Baby Bistro Box. It has healthy tips and recipes for babies, but it also includes a little bit of olive oil. Ask your pediatrician if that's ok for your baby. I have the Baby Bistro Box (it's under $30 and I won it online) so if you would like some recipes for your baby, please let me know and I'll email them to you!
all that I do is get a bag of frozen veggies (or raw ones.. but that takes longer to peel and chop, etc). Cook them up. Throw them in a blender. To get the right texture.. use the juices that you cooked the veggies in (if you use plain water it loses some of the flavor)
You don't really need recipes. You can cook any veggie and put it in a food processor or blender with a little formula or water till it's nice and smooth and feed that to your baby. You can do this with fruit or meat also. Just don't use any seasonings. I ordered a baby food processor so that we can do this when the time comes.
Most any vegetable you can just put into some water and simmer over medium to low heat until they are fork tender then puree in a food processor or blender. Once you puree them you can spoon them into ice trays, freeze, pop them out and put into a freezer bag and take out and microwave what you need, when you need it....that way you can cook a whole bag of carrots, etc and not be cooking everyday. Also, once your baby gets a little older you can leave the veggies a little chunkier to suit your baby's needs. You could also invest in a vegetable steamer which would come with instructions on how to cook the veggies, then puree, etc. Hope this helps.
i buy a bag of mixes veg and mash it up sometimes add some mash potato aswell,
As long as what you eat is healthy and nutritious you can blend that and give to your child. Don't add salt though.

Eat a couple of pieces of your favorite fruit. Nuts and seeds are also good too.

Personally, I like to have a little bit of yogurt, granola, and fruit mixed together.
Oats and boiled egg is an excellent breakfast option. You can also opt for fruit yogurt

And recipes are good but maybe just some Regular natural foods that I can eat??? THANKS SO MUCH! Pleeeaaaase answer I really need help!Healthy ';diet'; food recipes? PLEASE ANSWER QUICK!?
Tuna sandwich on 100% whole wheat bread, substitute regular mayo for fat free or low fat, little bit of salt and pepper and you can add some little bits of pickle too, it tastes really good that way. Tuna has little calories and lots of protein its pretty healthy. And any berrys are good for shakes because they have tons of antioxidants, bananas are good too.

    Recipes with healthy foods hidden?

There are some cookbooks like Deceptively Delicious that have ways of putting healthy foods, vegetables, etc.. in normal recipes to make it healthy for children. I wanted to find some of those types of recipes online, know any websites?Recipes with healthy foods hidden?
When I was younger my mom used to mix mashed potatoes and carrots so it was like we were eating orange mashed potatoes. I often mix spinach with rice. Lasagna is another way to add veggies and the children wouldn't notice.Recipes with healthy foods hidden?
My mom used to blend pinto beans in the blender, and add the puree to chili, so I wouldn't know there were beans in it.

My daughter doesn't like mashed potatoes or spinach, but when I mix them together, she loves them.

I also put spinach in her hamburgers.

My daughter will eat anything if I tell her that her favorite tv characters eat it.
um maybe smoothies? or maybe like chicken noodle soup or tomato soup or any kind of yummy soup. um or what u can do is like maybe celery with peanut butter or for a website try:

    http://www.thesneakychef.com/

however it doesnt really have that many recipes because it actually is just a promo website for the actual book which is pretty cool at least i think so and u can but the book used for 10 something at barnes and noble and less than 10 at amazon.com but i really dont like buying online book cause it takes forever to come unless u do the speedy delivery thing and a unused book cost 10.77 at amazon, 0.75 more than a barnes and noble used, a barnes and noble new cost about 18 dollars i think. then agian u can just use the one they give u at the website.
    no.. but try vegetable soup.

Any good recipes for fish? I really don't like fish at all but have to eat healthy food now.?

Ok, I know fish is healthy.

However, I do insist on flavor that blends well and covers up the fishy taste.

I'm not opposed to Emeril-type cooking or Louisana-style. Any ideas?Any good recipes for fish? I really don't like fish at all but have to eat healthy food now.?
Well if you're a cat you can eat canned tuna, lol.Any good recipes for fish? I really don't like fish at all but have to eat healthy food now.?
Fish isn't really that healthy, once you count the mercury and other toxins found in them. Basically, everything we dump into the oceans and rivers is filtered through the fish and concentrated. The FDA warns you should have no more than one serving of tuna a month, just for example. Certain fish raised in certain places/conditions are still okay, but you should research it first.

As for hiding the taste of fish? Not gonna happen unless you smother it in fat and spices or fry it and thats not exactly healhty, is it? Pan searing and oven roasting are the only two healthy ways to eat meat and if you don't like how fish tastes, that won't work.

My suggestion: forget the fish and learn to use tofu and vegetables. If you must, a very lean chicken breast is just as healthy as fish. And all those magical omega fats you think you've read about existing only in fish can be found in flax seed oil (good on salads) and other sources in combinations.

Don't eat fish if you don't like it. There is no good reason to, and if you try to force yourself into ';healthy eating'; that you hate, you are more likely to fail.
fresh the fresher the better. salmon on the grill nothing fancy garlic olive oil lemon zest salt pepper. if you don't do olive oil find an oil with a high smoke temp. grape seed is good. check labels for hydrogenized YOU DON'T WANT THAT. a little butter or margerine for flavor and moisture lay it out on some fiol. it should be firm not dry so whatch it.
Ok I just had fish last night. it was great. all u do is pick out a great salmond. then you bake it in butter for about 1.5 hours then you put bread crumbs over it. and you can make potatoes and veg. with it. It is excellent.
I disagree with the poster that said fish is bad because of mercury. First off fish contains Omega 3s which are beneficial to the body, and mercury is found in a lot of the older fish , the big tunas, sword fish etc, where Salmon contains no mercury at all. Most fish do not have a ';fishy'; taste if cooked right, they shouldn't smell to the point you want to cover your nose , if they do, the fish isn't fresh and you shouldn't eat it anyway.

I enjoy salmon, tuna, red snapper, and much more, baked or pan seared , with olive oil, garlic, some orange juice , a little soy sauce and sugar, mmmmmmm
first if the fish smells it's old don't eat it.

Simple and tasty. Get cod or other white fish and saute in Italian salad dressing each side aboe 2-3 minutes. you can coat it if you like.
    Ok, This one's a winner!

Fish Fillets in a Bath of Garlic:

    2/3 cup olive oil

20 cloves garlic, peeled and sliced thinly

    1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper

2/3 cup clam juice or fish stock

Juice of 3 limes, about 1/4 cup

1 ancho chile, stemmed, seeded and chopped

1 bunch flat leaf parsley, roughly chopped

6 6-ounce skinless, boneless filets of fresh fish

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Season fish filets with salt and pepper. Heat a large cast iron or heavy bottomed skillet over moderately high heat. When hot add 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil. Sear fish fillets about 1-2 minutes per side or until lightly golden, remove to a oven proof platter and set in oven to finish cook for 3-5 minutes or, to desired doneness. Meanwhile add the remaining olive oil, slivered garlic, salt and pepper to the pan and cook over medium low heat stirring often for about 2 minutes. Add chopped ancho chiles and continue cooking a minute or two until a toasty aroma is released. Add the fish stock or clam juice reduce by half, adding any juices that have collected on the platter holding the fish fillets. Then add lime juice and parsley, bring sauce to a boil and pour over fish on platter. Serve immediately along with plenty of white rice.

    * salt

    * 1/2 cup finely chopped celery

    * 6 tablespoons melted butter

    * 1 teaspoon salt

    * 1/8 teaspoon ground pepper

    * 4 cups dry bread, cut or torn into 1/4-inch pieces

    * butter

    * chopped parsley

    * lemon wedges, optional

    PREPARATION:

Cut fish into strips. Line well-greased muffin tins with fish strips; sprinkle with salt. In a small skillet, saute onion and celery in butter until just tender. Combine vegetable butter mixture with 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, sage, and bread cubes.Add a little hot water if stuffing seems too dry. Dot the top of each stuffing center with a little butter then sprinkle with chopped parsley. Bake at 350掳 for 30 minutes, or until fish flakes easily with a fork. Serve with lemon wedges, if desired.

    Serves 6.
salmon steak. 1 cloves minced garlic, 1 tbls brown sugar, 1 tbls chili powder, 1 tsp. lemon juice, 1 tsp. orange rind, mix. rub into salmon steak. cook at 350 degrees 10 minutes per inch. it's so good. serve with 1 cup brown basmati rice and 2 tbls chicken stock cubes and 2 cups water. bring to a boil for 1 minute, cover and let simmer 30 minutes. throw in some brocolli. oh it's so good!
well i sometimes take fish, soak it in water, put it in a bowl of flour, and then fry it on olive oil....you can add some veggies while you're doing it...remember to add pepper and salt...
I'm not a big fish eater either but both of my children love it so I do fix it for them. I usually use tilapia or whiting because it doesn't have that real fishy smell. I like to make oven packs using tin foil.

    1 piece of fish

    2-3 fresh lemon slices

fresh spices (basil, rosemary, dill...whatever you like)

    salt and pepper to taste

    slices zuchini or squash

    sliced onion

any other veggie that may interest you.

Spray tin foil with pan spray to food from sticking. Add fish, lemon, spices and veggies. Roll foil pack up and place on a baking sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.

Be careful when opening packet, the steam will be hot.

    Enjoy
You just need to pick the right fish!

Tuna steaks don't taste too fishy, they're more like steak.

I personally like Salmon and you can disguise it by cooking it with fresh chilli and putting it on top of a healthy stir fry.

If you use a light white fish like cod or haddock, you could hide it in a tomato sauce with pasta. Could make a nice fish type lasagne.

Unfortunately oily fish is the best for you, but they all smell and have that distinct taste. I do like fresh sardines on the bbq though and I guess you could eat it with a tomato salsa?!
I got this recipe from the grocery store. take a filet of Basa (it's an inexpenisve fish) and add picante sauce, breadcrumbs, and shredded cheese on top. Bake on 350 for about 25 minutes. It does not even taste like fish.

    Healthy Homemade Cat Food Recipes?

Does anyone have an healthy recipe for an cat?

    Wet plz?

I feel sorry for my cat, every day he eats dry food and sometimes I feed him canned food.

And every time I eat fish or something he always wants some. And Jumps around the dinner table chairs. And keeps smelling the dinner table.. So Cute!Healthy Homemade Cat Food Recipes?
Check out the link below that has articles about feeding a raw diet. You need to be very careful that your cat is getting all the nutrience he needs and you want to make sure he doesn't get sick from bacteria from raw meat.

Unless you know what you are doing, you should stick with canned food and some dry food to make sure your cat stays healthy.

Some of the best kinds of cat food are:

Natura Innova EVO, Wellness, Felidae, Eagle Pack Holistic Select, Holistic Blend, Orijen, Petcurean Go! Natural, Petcurean Foundations, Petcurean Summit, Natura California Natural, Natura Innova, by Nature, Nutram, Nature鈥檚 Variety, Natural Balance.

Check out their websites to see if they are available at a store near you. Look for foods with high meat content, low grains or grain-free.

Avoid foods with by-products and chemical preservatives. Don't buy cat food from the grocery store unless it comes from the organic section, otherwise you are surely getting crappy food. Buy from a pet store that sells premium food.

Canned is best, but if your cat doesn't like canned that much or you can't afford an all canned diet, feed a bit of canned and add water to it a couple times per day, put it in the fridge after 30 min though so it doesn't go bad. A can should last a few days or longer. Then leave dry food out all day.Healthy Homemade Cat Food Recipes?
buy frozen fish (cheap like whiting) and then chop or grind the whole thing up and packaged for your freezer. could put up a couple of months on weekend. Then, mix this solid fish with some purina dry catfood. pour a little olive oil over it. everything to please your phat.
Cat food can be made at home using ground meats and flavorings.

We feed our cat canned tuna. If salmon is really cheap, get some and break it into small portions. Then freeze it. Thaw some when you need it.
Take one mouse, mix in a bird, put outside on the ground.

I have a cat, I love cats. They are cats! The most natural, healthfood for a cat is a bird or mouse, or maybe some bugs, they seem to like those ';wet';.

I feed my indoor cat IAMS dry food every day, every week, every year. They don't care. I tried to give mine fresh tuna which I caught in the Pacific ocean and she won't eat it. She's a snob, she prefers the un-natural IAMS food now.

1/2 pound raw eye of round, sirloin, London broil or tri-tip steak, thinly sliced across the grain (1/16 inch thick; freeze for 15 minutes to make it easier to slice)

1 medium yellow onion, sliced paper-thin, left to soak for 30 minutes in a bowl of cold water

3 or 4 scallions, green part only, cut into thin rings

    1/3 cup chopped cilantro (ngo)

    Ground black pepper

Optional garnishes arranged on a plate and placed at the table:

Sprigs of spearmint (hung lui) and Asian/Thai basil (hung que)

Leaves of thorny cilantro (ngo gai)

    Bean sprouts (about 1/2 pound)

Red hot chiles (such as Thai bird or dragon), thinly sliced

    Lime wedges

    Prepare the broth:

Char onion and ginger. Use an open flame on grill or gas stove. Place onions and ginger on cooking grate and let skin burn. (If using stove, turn on exhaust fan and open a window.) After about 15 minutes, they will soften and become sweetly fragrant. Use tongs to occasionally rotate them and to grab and discard any flyaway onion skin. You do not have to blacken entire surface, just enough to slightly cook onion and ginger.

Let cool. Under warm water, remove charred onion skin; trim and discard blackened parts of root or stem ends. If ginger skin is puckered and blistered, smash ginger with flat side of knife to loosen flesh from skin. Otherwise, use sharp paring knife to remove skin, running ginger under warm water to wash off blackened bits. Set aside.

Parboil bones. Place bones in stockpot (minimum 12-quart capacity) and cover with cold water. Over high heat, bring to boil. Boil vigorously 2 to 3 minutes to allow impurities to be released. Dump bones and water into sink and rinse bones with warm water. Quickly scrub stockpot to remove any residue. Return bones to pot.

Simmer broth. Add 6 quarts water to pot, bring to boil over high heat, then lower flame to gently simmer. Use ladle to skim any scum that rises to surface. Add remaining broth ingredients and cook 1 1/2 hours. Boneless meat should be slightly chewy but not tough. When it is cooked to your liking, remove it and place in bowl of cold water for 10 minutes; this prevents the meat from drying up and turning dark as it cools. Drain the meat; cool, then refrigerate. Allow broth to continue cooking; in total, the broth should simmer 3 hours.

Strain broth through fine strainer. If desired, remove any bits of gelatinous tendon from bones to add to your pho bowl. Store tendon with cooked beef. Discard solids.

Use ladle to skim as much fat from top of broth as you like. (Cool it and refrigerate it overnight to make this task easier; reheat befofe continuing.) Taste and adjust flavor with additional salt, fish sauce and yellow rock sugar. The broth should taste slightly too strong because the noodles and other ingredients are not salted. (If you've gone too far, add water to dilute.) Makes about 4 quarts.

Assemble bowls: The key is to be organized and have everything ready to go. Thinly slice cooked meat. For best results, make sure it's cold.

Heat broth and ready noodles. To ensure good timing, reheat broth over medium flame as you're assembling bowls. If you're using dried noodles, cover with hot tap water and soak 15-20 minutes, until softened and opaque white. Drain in colander. For fresh rice noodles, just untangle and briefly rinse in a colander with cold water.

Blanch noodles. Fill 3- or 4-quart saucepan with water and bring to boil. For each bowl, use long-handle strainer to blanch a portion of noodles. As soon as noodles have collapsed and lost their stiffness (10-20 seconds), pull strainer from water, letting water drain back into saucepan. Empty noodles into bowls. Noodles should occupy 1/4 to 1/3 of bowl; the latter is for noodle lovers, while the former is for those who prize broth.

If desired, after blanching noodles, blanch bean sprouts for 30 seconds in same saucepan. They should slightly wilt but retain some crunch. Drain and add to the garnish plate.

Add other ingredients. Place slices of cooked meat, raw meat and tendon (if using) atop noodles. (If your cooked meat is not at room temperature, blanch slices for few seconds in hot water from above.) Garnish with onion, scallion and chopped cilantro. Finish with black pepper.

Most authentic Chinese dishes are actually quite low in fat, and this article states some differences between authentic and westernized Chinese food: http://www.romow.com/culture-blog/americanized-vs-authentic-chinese-food/

If you're a seafood lover, try steamed fish or scallops on the half shell, they are usually spiced up with shredded gingers, garlic, chilli, spring onion or coriander, with soy sauce. You may try these recipes:

Stirfrys are great to be served with either plain rice or noodles! You can stir fry veggies with or without meat, sliced lean meat, seafood or tofu will be a better option if you're concerned about the fat content.

With a good quality non-stick pan, you only need a small amount of oil to sautee (minced ginger, garlic, chili, or spring onions), add the marinated meat and then veggies. Stir fry for 1- 2 minutes and then cover. If you prefer a thicker sauce, a mixture of ';corn flour %26amp; water'; can be added in when everything is cooked. Turn off the heat when it bubbles. Season with salt or soy.

I also put spinach in her hamburgers.

um maybe smoothies? or maybe like chicken noodle soup or tomato soup or any kind of yummy soup. um or what u can do is like maybe celery with peanut butter or for a website try:

however it doesnt really have that many recipes because it actually is just a promo website for the actual book which is pretty cool at least i think so and u can but the book used for 10 something at barnes and noble and less than 10 at amazon.com but i really dont like buying online book cause it takes forever to come unless u do the speedy delivery thing and a unused book cost 10.77 at amazon, 0.75 more than a barnes and noble used, a barnes and noble new cost about 18 dollars i think. then agian u can just use the one they give u at the website.
    no.. but try vegetable soup.

    RECIPE AT SITE BELOW

We feed our cat canned tuna. If salmon is really cheap, get some and break it into small portions. Then freeze it. Thaw some when you need it.
Take one mouse, mix in a bird, put outside on the ground.

I have a cat, I love cats. They are cats! The most natural, healthfood for a cat is a bird or mouse, or maybe some bugs, they seem to like those ';wet';.

I feed my indoor cat IAMS dry food every day, every week, every year. They don't care. I tried to give mine fresh tuna which I caught in the Pacific ocean and she won't eat it. She's a snob, she prefers the un-natural IAMS food now.

my 2 1/2 yo and 18 month old are very picky. They dont ever want to eat their vegetables or fruit. I dont really know how to cook very well yet so my husband always wants to eat out. I love fruits and vegetables, but my kids wont touch them. I have both discussed this with their doctor, but all he said was they will eat when they are hungry and was not concerned, but it seems they would rather starve. I dont know what to do. Anyone have any advice on this or good suggestions for good lunch and dinner foods?Toddlers wont eat healthy food?.....any food recipes suggestions?

Put your foot down! So they have a fit. So what. Life goes on. Take them to their rooms and tell them when they calm down they can come out. Period.

Don't give into them or it will only get worse.

Tell them what is on their plate is what they will eat. If they dont' eat it, then clear it away, but DON'T give them something else. They will learn.

Your kids should eat what you give them, not what they want. They can't live on mac %26amp; cheese, chocolate and junk food.

You are the boss, aren't you?
first, you need to talk to your mom. ask her to give the kids cookies that are healthier, like oatmeal cookies. you could try to make the foods fun with something to dip them into (like ranch dressing or fruit dip, or chocolate syrup if they're insisting on sweets....chocolate isn't bad for you unless it's given in excessive amounts.) also, you can try making muffins or cookies (you can get the boxed mixes) and baking in fruits %26amp; veggies.
The doc is right on this one- they will eat when they are hungry enough. Also, ask your mom to provide them one heathly snack (like fruit) before giving them any junk. My son (for some reason) loves fruit. I also made some sweet potato french fries and my son (3 years) and daughter (1 year) love them.

You can always puree fruits and veg and add into muffins and other fun things. They would never know.

    Good luck!
well, im 12 yrs old, and i new this helpd wen i wuz little, my mom always let me make little things, like homemade pizza or something like that, i no kids love eating things they make. they always think it tastes betr wen they make it, it can b simple foods, even if they help out a little, they may eat what they take part in.
this is what i do...i puree the vegtables up, then cook them in with the food, the kids can't even taste them and they love it!!!

For instance, for pancakes, i take carrorts and mix them in with the batter...for eggs you can use carrots, spinach anything that you want...the kids don't even know that they're eating healthy!!! and sometimes if the food changes colours they think it's so cool!!

    Good luck!
ok so babies and toddlers are attracted to bright colorful foods...

    everyone is in fact...

but they also know what taste good and what doesnt...

call carrots candy... eat them and make a big deal about how good they taste... offer him some and if he says no say ok and eat more...

toddlers get possesive over what they cant have soon enough if he sees that you dont force it on him and you like it he might just change his mind on what he wants

    hope this helps
i hid fruits and veggies in other food. if i made muffins, i'd chop up fruits or mash them and add them in. stuff like that.
My daughter is 4, and we have this issue too. It drives me crazy because I always loved fruits and veggies. She watches Yo Gabba Gabba on Nick Jr.. On that show they sing a song called ';There's a Party in My Tummy';. I sing this song to my daughter using whatever is on her plate at the time that I want her to eat. Here is a link to a video clip of the characters singing the song on the show.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9PqjMSNf…

It should definitely help with your 2 1/2 year old, and hopefully the 18 month old will catch on, or at least want to copy the oldest. Although if it does help, you might end up wanting to hunt me down and strangle me. LOL I get tired of having to sing the song, and I suspect that she sometimes refuses just so I will sing the song. If it gets the veggies down with out a fight, I will do it.
No sugar!...The child has you trained, break the cycle. Your doctor is right, he'll eat when he's hungry. I raised my son with very little sugar, he had a 4.0 GPA and was varsity quarterback 2 years. I never made him eat anything he didn't like but I only presented him with healthy foods. When I introduced new foods I enforced a 2 bite rule, if he doesn't like the 2 bites then he never had to eat that again. He never developed a ';fear'; of trying new foods. Funny, there is very little he didn't like. Talk to your mother about your kids diets, she is being detrimental to his health.
I read in my Parents magazine to give your children vegetables to snack on when they’re the most hungry. Because they won’t fight you if they’re starving. My son LOVES fruit, he can eat it 24/7 if I let him. Which is a good thing, but there’s sugar in fruit so I sometimes try to limit what time I give that to him. But as far as veggies, he does okay with them. It’s still a challenge, but I just keep giving him health snacks and he’s gotten better with it. Cookies are a special treat, but only after dinner, when he’s eaten everything he’s supposed to eat. Grandparents are known for spoiling their grandkids, and this is okay as long as she still respects your “rules” of parenting. So explain that it’s okay to sneak some cookies here and there, but to please cut back because they’re just turning into sweet tooth children.

I also read to include veggies like shaved carrots into pancakes so they’re getting the veggie intake but don’t really know. Or to put pieces of broccoli into mac and cheese (all kids LOVE mac and cheese right?). Even if they’re getting a bite or two more than the last time, it’s progress. It won’t happen overnight, but eventually they’ll get used to it. Try making things like banana bread, zucchini bread, etc. Or maybe involve them in making little pizzas and have them decorate with veggies. My Parents magazine has a great article this month about different combos of veggies for children. And how to incorporate them. If you can, pick it up and check it out….

    Good luck!
Jerry Seinfeld's wife came out with a really cool cookbook called Deceptively Delicious and explains how to hide fruits and veggies in every day recipes. It's a great book!

Make oatmeal raisin cookies and to appease them throw in some choc late chips; that way they can eat their cookies BUT it's better than just a chocolate chip cookie. Also, did you know that you can sub applesauce for butter in baking? That's another way to get some fruit in them!

Another tip: if they like applesauce anyway, have them pick another fit that they like (strawberries, peaches, plums) and throw that fruit in a blender or food processor and puree that fruit...mix it with the applesauce for a yummy treat! (be sure to take any pits out of pitted fruit before processing though!)

The key is to make eating foods they don't like interesting and fun...give them a sticker each time they try something new, and by all means don't push a new food on them...but they should at least have to try it...if they don't like it wait awhile and try it again.

Sweet potatoes are SO healthy and can be made fun by making them into fries. They are naturally sweet and do taste like candy. (well kind of!)

Zucchini bread and banana bead are good too, plus they are sweet tasting...very appealing to kids.
Well I am by no means a mom, but maybe you could try making them smoothies (to get some fruit into their diets.)

These seem easy (and yummy) enough.

    Banana Smoothie

    (serves 3)

    Ingredients

    1/4 cup orange juice

    4 bananas

    3 scoops of plain ice-cream

    2 tablespoons of golden syrup

    3 tablespoons of plain yoghurt

    Lemon juice (optional)

    Sugar (optional)

    Method

Cut the bananas into small pieces and put in the blender. Add all the other ingredients. Blend on full for 20 seconds. Put lemon juice around the rim of the glasses then roll the rim in the sugar so it sticks to the lemon juice. Serve immediately.

    Fruit Mania Smoothie

    (serves 1)

    Ingredients

    6 strawberries

    1 banana

    5 raspberries

    1 clementine

    2 ice-cubes

    Method

Blend the fruits together first, then gradually add the ice.

Also maybe you could dip some fruit into chocolate? Yes, it is slightly unhealthy, but then again, it gives them some fruit.

How can I make healthy food taste as good or better than junk food using pre-bought snacks and recipes?

I am just wondering how long it takes for me to like healthy better than junk food so my taste buds change. But any suggestions on my main problem would be helpful. Thank you.How can I make healthy food taste as good or better than junk food using pre-bought snacks and recipes?
Once you cut junk food out of your diet, you will notice an increase in your energy level and mood. Soon enough your taste buds will crave things like fruits and begetbles rather than fatty empty calorie foods like chips, chocolate, fast food, etc. The sooner you begin to cut out those foods and eat healthy, the sooner the urges for those kinds of bad foods will leave. Just slowley add maybe a serving or two of fruits and vegetables into your daily diet, then start to take out things like ice cream, chocolate and junk food like chips, and those processed snacks and fast food.

Hope that helps! How can I make healthy food taste as good or better than junk food using pre-bought snacks and recipes?
I've been on Weight Watchers for about 4 months. It took about 2 months to get a grip on the junk food cravings. Some of my tricks:

    1. 94% fat free popcorn and dill pickles. Eat when you crave chips or something salty.

    2. WW frozen fudge bars. These are available in the frozen food section of your grocery store. 50 calories apiece. Eat when you crave chocolate or ice cream.

    3. Splenda on everything that you feel isn't sweet enough. Splenda makes fresh fruit sweeter (and more candy-like!) Splenda makes the non-fat, sugar free yogurt taste better. Splenda + popcorn tastes like fake kettle corn.

    4. Molly McButter on everything you feel tastes bland. MMM. Fake butter.

I don't think I will ever like healthy food better than junk food. But I figure if I implement my coping strategies 75% of the time, I do OK and still lose weight.
The key to making healthy food is in the spices and seasoning you use. You have to replace the fat with something tasty. Try experimenting with different herbs and spices. Once you stop eating junk food, you will find that you don't crave it anymore. Keep in mind though that you should indulge once in a while. Moderation is key. When nothing is off limits, it is much easier to make healthy choices. Good luck!
A good and easy snack is mixing raisins, almonds, and peanuts with maybe a dried fruit. It's a nice combo of sweet and salty and so much better than junk food. I have also found that the Slim Fast bars and South Beach Diet snacks are quite addicting. Just make better choices. You know that a bag of chips is a bad choice but if you want chips now and then, buy a bag that is 40% less fat. Cape Cod makes a a tasty low fat chip.

    This is an easy recipe:

    CHILIAN SEA BASS

1-1/2 pounds skin-on Chilean Sea Bass, cut into four pieces

    Salt and pepper

    2 tbsp. olive oil

    1 tbsp. butter

    1 bulb of fennel

    2 cloves of garlic

1/2 c. dry white wine (optional)

1 (14-1/2 oz). can diced tomatoes with juice

    3 tbsp. chopped cilantro

Rinse the sea bass fillets under cold water. Dry with paper towels. Season with salt and pepper on both sides. (Make sure the fillets are dry before cooking so they will brown.) Cut off the top of the fennel bulb and trim the bottom a little. Cut the bulb in half lengthwise. Core the bulb, then cut the bulb lengthwise again and cut crosswise into thin slices. Mince the garlic. Use a pan that's big enough to hold all four fillets. (You don't want to over-crowd the pan, but you don鈥檛 want a pan that is too big because the fillets may cook too quickly and burn.) Pre-heat your pan over low heat. When the pan is hot, add 1 tablespoon of oil and 1 tablespoon of butter. When the oil is hot but before the butter start to brown, add the fillets skin side up and sear the skinless side until golden brown. (3-4 minutes.) Using a wide spatula, flip over to the other side and cook again for 3-4 minutes. Remove the fish fillets from the pan and transfer to a plate. Using the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the pan and then the sliced fennel. Season with a salt %26amp; pepper and cook 4-5 minutes until softened, stirring occasionally. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat and add wine. Cover the pan with a tight fitting lid or aluminum foil. Reduce the heat to medium. Simmer the fennel for 8 minutes or until tender. If pan becomes too dry, add a few tablespoons of water. Add the tomatoes with the juice, 1/2 cup of water, and 2 tablespoons of cilantro. Replace cover and simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Remove the cover and season with salt and pepper to taste. Return the sea bass to the pan skin side down with the juices on the plate that held the fish. Cover the pan and cook at a low simmer 4-5 minutes until the sea bass is cooked through. Remove each piece carefully with your spatula. Serve fish in shallow soup bowls. Spoon the broth over the top and garnish with the remaining chopped cilantro and fennel tops.

    Homemade Cat Food:

    Diet for Adult Cats:

Feed an adult cat as much as she will eat in 20 to 30 minutes. Refrigerate the leftovers promptly. It is recommended that you feed your adult cats twice a day. This recipe provides approximately three servings.

Choose one protein source (meat amounts given in raw weight):

    * 1/2 pound boneless chicken breast or thigh, minced

    * 6 ounces ground turkey, or minced turkey (dark meat)

    * 1/2 pound lean beef, minced

    * 1/2 pound beef, chicken or turkey heart, ground or minced

About three times per week, include one chopped hard-boiled or scrambled egg. If you would like, once a week, substitute 4 ounces of organic liver for 1/2 of any meat source. Another option is to substitute a four-ounce can of tuna that is packed in water, a six-ounce can of sandines, or a five-ounce can of salmon with bones for any meat source once every two weeks. Do not use canned fish as a protein source for cats that are prone to urinary tract problems.

For cats needing a lower protein diet, add one cup of cooked white rice.

    Supplements:

    * Two teaspoons of olive oil or one teaspoon of olive oil and one teaspoon of flaxseed oil

    * 300 mg. of calcium (as carbonate or citrate) or about one slightly rounded teaspoon of bone meal (human grade). (If using canned fish with bones, decrease calcium to 1/4 regular amount.)

    * One to two tablespoons of pureed vegetables since many cats prefer their veggies lightly steamed or vegetable baby food (without onion powder).

    * 1/4 teaspoon of salt substitute (potassium chloride) should be given three to four times per week.

    * One cat-size dose of multiple vitamin-mineral supplements (human quality) or cat vitamin

    * One probiotic/digestive enzyme supplement

    * 80 mg of Taurine (omit if using cat vitamin)Seeking recipes for healthy homemade cat food?
here is supposedly a book of cat food recipes

    http://www.purrfectpetportraits.com/cat-鈥?/a>

you could also check ebay and used bookstores for cat food recipe books...
Open a can of tuna. Cheap, %26amp; your cats will love you forever.
Just give your kitty canned tuna or salmon or chicken.
Here's a site that I've referred to before. This recipe is interesting. I found a dog biscuit recipe that they called ';anti-flea'; because it had brewer's yeast in it. This cat treat also has brewer's yeast, but they don't say anything about controlling fleas.

    http://www.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/6/鈥?/a>

If you do a search on ';cat food recipes';, you'll find the page for cdkitchen. I think it's odd that they only have recipes for treats and not food. A natural for cats is liver, but they don't mention anything about it. If you buy whole chickens, you get a bag with the giblets. You could bake the giblets, and then grind them up. I had a cat that loved chicken livers. He didn't think much of the rest, though.

    SUPER HEALTHY SUPER AFFORDABLE CHICKEN

    NOODLE SOUP

    Equipment needed:

8 qt. stock/soup pot and cover

3 or 4 quart soup pot

    ladle

    cutting knife

    cutting board

    Ingredients:

    1 whole chicken, cut up

    3 12 oz. cans fat-free chicken broth

    1 lb bag carrots

    1 large onion

    1 bunch celery

1 8 oz. package baby Portabella mushrooms

    3 medium leaves kale

    8 oz egg noodles

    salt

    freshly grated black pepper

    1 bay leaf

    陆 tsp chili powder

    录 tsp coriander

crushed red pepper flakes, to taste

Beth's Comment: This is my super-affordable chicken noodle soup! The estimated cost of this entire meal is $15-20 depending on local grocery costs. This soup offers 10-15 servings, so 1 batch lasts almost an entire week of lunches and dinners for two people. The only downside is that the entire recipe takes about 6 hours to make. I usually make this soup two separate nights after work. This allows me to cook the chicken and chop all the vegetables one night. The second night, the broth is cool enough to skim off fat and finish off the soup.

    Preparation:

1st Part: Fill an 8 quart stock pot slightly more thanhalf full with water. Add 1 12 oz can of chicken broth. Add a 陆 tsp of salt and 陆 tsp of pepper. Bring to a boil.

While waiting for the water to boil, wash chicken parts and trim off some skin and fat (not all of it, though).

Once the water is boiling, add bay leaf and washed chicken. Reduce to a low/medium simmer. Cover and simmer for 2-3 hours or until the meat on the chicken falls off bone very easily. Remove from heat.

Remove chicken from stock and allow to cool to the touch. Pick meat off the bones and discard skin, bones, and undesirable meat.

Strain stock pot to remove bay leaf and any remaining bones, etc.

Allow soup broth to cool, then refrigerate for about an hour. This will solidify the fat on top, allowing for easier removal. Skim fat off the top of the broth.

2nd Part: Wash all vegetables. Chop entire bag of carrots (without peeling the carrots of their skins, that鈥檚 the healthy part!). Chop 6-7 stalks of celery. Peel and chop entire onion. Chop entire package of portabella mushrooms. Chop kale leaves into manageable strips.

Return stock pot to burner. Add 2 cans of chicken broth (to boost the flavor). Bring stock to a high simmer. Add 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 陆 teaspoon of chili powder, and 录 teaspoon of coriander (add crushed red pepper flakes here if you like it with more bite). Add all chopped vegetables. Reduce to a low simmer for 2 hours.

When veggies and stock are almost done, take a 3 or 4 quart pot and fill with water. Bring to boil. Add 8 oz of egg noodles and salt to taste. Follow package directions for al dente pasta. Make sure to rinse noodles in cold water when they are done.

Once vegetables are finished simmering, add chicken and egg noodles. Continue to heat on low for 10 minutes to bring chicken and noodles up to temperature. Remove from heat and ENJOY!Anybody have a great healthy food recipe?

1 clove of garlic, minced (about 1/2 teaspoon)

    1 1/2 teaspoons anchovy paste

    1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard

    1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

    2 tablespoons lemon juice

    2 tablespoons olive oil

    1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

6 cups coarsely torn romaine lettuce

2 cups of baby spinach leaves

    2 cups of whole-grain croutons

4 grilled chicken breast halves (about 4 ounces each), sliced

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg product, garlic, anchovy paste, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice. Slowly add the olive oil in a steady stream, whisking the whole time. Stir in the Parmesan and season with salt and pepper.

In a large bowl, toss the dressing with the lettuce and spinach until well coated. Add the croutons and toss to combine. Divide the salad onto 4 plates and top each plate with grilled chicken slices.

    Dinner:

    Garden Risotto

    6 cups low-sodium chicken broth

    2 teaspoons olive oil

    1 medium onion, chopped

    1 1/2 cups Arborio rice

    1/2 cup dry white wine

    3/4 teaspoon salt

    Freshly ground black pepper

3 lightly packed cups baby spinach leaves

    1 cup frozen peas

1/2 pound asparagus, steamed and cut into 3/4-inch pieces

    1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan

Bring the broth to a simmer in a medium saucepan. Heat the oil in a heavy saucepan over moderately low heat and cook the onion, stirring occasionally, until soft, 3 to 5 minutes. Add the rice and cook, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Add wine and simmer, stirring constantly, until absorbed, about 1 minute. Add 3/4 cup of the hot broth, the salt and a few grinds of fresh pepper and simmer, stirring constantly, until broth is absorbed. Continue simmering and adding hot broth, about 3/4 cup at a time, stirring constantly and allowing the broth to be absorbed before adding more, until rice is almost tender and creamy-looking, about 18 minutes.

Add the spinach and peas and cook until the spinach is wilted. Add the asparagus and cook just until the vegetables are hot. Stir in the Parmesan and more broth if the risotto seems too thick. Serve in soup plates.
